Eric Topol

Impact

Eric Topol is a cardiologist and physician-scientist who is Executive Vice President of Scripps Research and founder and director of the Scripps Research Translational Institute, established in 2007. His work combines genomics, digital technologies and artificial intelligence to advance individualised medicine, and he is principal investigator of large NIH programmes including the All of Us Research Program and a Clinical and Translational Science Award. Scripps reports that he has published over 1,300 peer-reviewed articles. His relevance to longevity lies mainly in translation and communication: his 2025 book Super Agers: An Evidence-Based Approach to Longevity, a New York Times bestseller, focuses on extending healthspan through prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease and neurodegenerative disease, drawing on the genomics of healthy aging and AI. He writes the Ground Truths newsletter on Substack and appears widely in media and podcasts. Before Scripps he chaired cardiovascular medicine at Cleveland Clinic, where he founded the Lerner College of Medicine, and he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2004. He remains clinically active as a cardiologist.
