Impact

Morgan Levine is a computational scientist known for developing widely used methods to quantify biological age. As first author of a 2018 paper in Aging, she introduced DNAm PhenoAge, an epigenetic biomarker trained on a clinical-chemistry measure of phenotypic age that predicts lifespan and healthspan better than earlier chronological-age clocks; she also co-authored the 2019 GrimAge clock paper. She led a laboratory at Yale School of Medicine that applied computational and experimental approaches to the molecular mechanisms of biological ageing, then served as VP of Computation at Altos Labs, where her work used machine learning to model how molecular changes propagate across cells, tissues, organs and organisms. In August 2026 she announced she was leaving Altos Labs; according to her ARDD 2026 speaker biography she is now building multimodal, multi-scale, multispecies world models of biology, and her new organisation has not been publicly named. She is the author of the general-audience book True Age (Penguin Random House), which presents the science of biological age and ways to measure and influence it.
