Impact
Morten Scheibye-Knudsen is a physician-scientist, Associate Professor and group leader in the Molecular Aging Program of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Copenhagen. After medical training and clinical work in Denmark and Greenland, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the US National Institute on Aging, where he studied cross-talk between DNA repair and mitochondrial function in ageing, and started his Copenhagen group in 2015. His laboratory studies the cellular and organismal consequences of DNA damage, and reports that DNA damage alters specific metabolites whose replenishment can change the rate of ageing in model organisms, suggesting a route to interventions for normal ageing and age-associated diseases; recent work also includes ageing clocks. He is active in field-building as president of the Nordic Aging Society, a founding member of the European Federation for Aging Research and a chief editor of Frontiers in Aging. His disclosed industry roles include co-founding Senoscope and consulting for the Healthy Longevity Clinic (as CSO), BOLD Longevity Growth Fund and Deep Longevity, in which he is a shareholder.
