Dog Aging Project

About
The Dog Aging Project is a multi-institution, open-science research programme studying ageing in companion dogs across the United States. It was founded in 2014 by Daniel Promislow, Matt Kaeberlein and Kate Creevy, grew out of an NIA-funded Canine Longevity Consortium, and was funded from 2018 by NIA grant U19AG057377 at the University of Washington. Owners of any dog can enrol; more than 50,000 dogs contribute annual health surveys, veterinary records and environmental data. Smaller cohorts include Foundation (genomics), Precision (biochemistry, with samples in a biobank at Cornell) and TRIAD, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of rapamycin in dogs aged at least 7, funded since 2024 by NIH grant R01AG090843 at Texas A&M. De-identified data are released every year to researchers through the Broad Institute's Terra platform. Collaborators come from dozens of veterinary and academic institutions.
