ERIBA is a research institute of the University Medical Center Groningen and the University of Groningen devoted to basic research on the causes of ageing. It was officially opened in 2013 with support from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Province of Groningen, the Northern Netherlands collaboration SNN, the European Union and the Noaber Foundation. Its groups study loss of function in long-lived non-dividing cells and self-renewal and genome stability in proliferating tissues, using models including yeast, worms, flatworms, killifish, mice and human iPSCs. Research areas include cellular senescence and senolytic strategies, protein aggregation in neurodegeneration, chromosomal instability, telomere biology and metabolism. Its iPSC/CRISPR and sequencing facilities were spun out in 2024 as the UMCG company iPsomics. Folkert Kuipers is Scientific Director, and since 2024 the institute has been part of UMCG's Biomedical Science & Technology cluster.
