Adam Antebi

Impact

Adam Antebi has been a director at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing in Cologne since 2008, where his Department of Molecular Genetics of Ageing studies the regulatory mechanisms behind the decline of organismal homeostasis with age. The lab works mainly in the nematode C. elegans, the short-lived African turquoise killifish and human cells, combining genetics with transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic and lipidomic profiling. Its reported findings include that small nucleoli are a cellular hallmark of longevity, that regulation of the one-carbon folate cycle is a shared metabolic signature of longevity, and that reduced spliceosome fidelity can inhibit mTORC1 signalling to promote longevity (Nature Aging, 2022). Recent work addresses fasting and refeeding, including AMPK complex activity (Nature Aging, 2023), and diapause and stem cell resilience in killifish (Nature Aging, 2025). He trained at MIT with Gerald Fink and at Johns Hopkins, led a group at the MPI for Molecular Genetics in Berlin and was on the Baylor College of Medicine faculty before moving to Cologne. He is an honorary professor at the University of Cologne, directs an International Max Planck Research School, was elected to EMBO in 2016 and held an ERC Advanced Grant on nucleolar regulation of longevity.
