Impact
Andrea Maier is an internal medicine specialist and geriatrician who works on translating ageing biology into tested clinical interventions, an approach she calls precision geromedicine. She is the Oon Chiew Seng Professor in Medicine and co-founder and director of the NUS Academy for Healthy Longevity at the National University of Singapore, and Professor of Gerontology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam; she has held senior roles in Europe, Australia and Asia. According to TIME, her clinical research tests whether interventions that extend healthy life in mice, including supplements such as NMN and alpha-ketoglutarate, translate to people, and her trials mainly enrol participants whose biological age exceeds their chronological age. In 2025 she helped open a clinical trial centre at NUS for long-term studies of supplements, exercise and lifestyle interventions, and her PROMETHEUS pilot tested a personalised multi-component programme. The NUS Academy reports more than 490 peer-reviewed publications and advisory work for the World Health Organization on healthy ageing. She chairs AgeGlobal. Commercial interest: she is listed as co-founder of Chi Longevity, a longevity medicine clinic.
